Submit Your Film
The submission period for the 2012 festival has closed. Watch this page to learn when we will start accepting submissions for next year.
The Atheist Film Festival features selected heretic-friendly short films on topics related (but not limited to) the spectrum of atheism and free thought. We encourage filmmakers to share their viewpoints with provocative, engaging, thought-provoking and/or hilarious short films.
Selected films will be screened at the festival on August 11th, 2012. One grand prize winner will receive $250 and the First Annual Atheist Film Festival filmmaker’s award, and each selected filmmaker will receive a complimentary festival pass.
Selection Criteria: Topics concerning atheism, agnosticism, skepticism, science, and a secular approach to human rights are encouraged. Selections will be equally judged on the film’s content and the filmmaker’s creative use of media to convey the concept.
Length: There is no limit to film length; however, films of 10 minutes or less are preferred, and films of 2-3 minutes in length are optimal.
Format: On the submission form you will be asked to provide a link to an upload of your film. Uploads to Vimeo are preferred but not required. Mailed DVDs of films may be considered. If you are unable to submit your film via an online link, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll discuss the options with you. Please give a brief description of your film in your email.
Entry fee: $25 per submission; multiple submissions are permitted.
Deadline: The submission deadline is July 21, 2012.
If selected, the filmmaker will be contacted and must provide an uncompressed version of the film, no later than July 28, 2012. Filmmakers are responsible for their usage of restricted or copyrighted material (the Atheist Film Festival is not liable for any copyrighted material unlawfully used).
